What is the Transfer Station Facility?

This facility has many different uses.  The Transfer Station, the Customer Convenience Station, the Yard Waste Pile Drop Off Location, Recycling Drop Off Center, The Tire Pile, the Metal Pile, and the TIPS Warehouse are all located at the Transfer Station Facility.  Each one of these areas accepts different types of materials.  All loads entering this facility must be secured so that no part of any load may escape by being windblown or by spilling from the vehicle.  Offenders of this requirement may be reported to law enforcement.  Loads are accepted from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Saturday.  All unloading must be completed by 5:00 pm.

What is the Transfer Station?

The Transfer Station is a large building that all of the garbage destined for the landfill is brought into.  This refuse is loaded into 18 wheeler's using very large heavy equipment, and taken to the landfill for disposal.

What is the Customer Convenience Station?

This is the location that we provide for our customers to bring in the garbage. Everything that comes in and out of the Transfer Station Facility is tracked through weight.  When you enter our facility, your vehicle is weighted on a large scale.  Once you have offloaded your materials, you go back across the scales.  Our system calculates the amount of weight that was brought into the facility and calculates the total amount that should be charged.  The Scale House attendant will take payment from you at this time.  We accept cash, local checks, and credit cards.

What is the Yard Waste Pile?

This is where people can bring yard waste for disposal.  Yard waste is classified as leaves, grass, pine needles, yard clippings and small brush (green waste).  Residential customers that live inside of the city limits and bring their City of Huntsville water bill, can dispose of yard waste for free.

What is the Recycling Drop Off Center?

This is the location that you can bring many different items to be recycled. If you do not participate in our Curbside Recycling program, if you have items that can be recycled but are not accepted through the curbside recycling program, if you have items that won't fit in your blue cart, or if you live outside the city limits, you can bring these items here. Please see our Recycling Drop Off Center page for more information.

What is the Tire Pile?

This is the location at our facility where you can place any tires that you bring in.  Landfills will not accept tires.  All the tires that are collected by the City of Huntsville are shipped to a Texas company that recycles these tires. Earth Energy Tire Recycling (EE-TDF) is our current tire recycling company, located at 1400 S Travis Ave, Cleveland, Tx 77327.
There is a ten tire limit for customers wishing to dispose of tires at the City of Huntsville Transfer Sation. No commercial tire business will be allowed to dispose of tires at the Transfer Station.

What is the Metal Pile?

This is the location at our facility where you can place any metal that you bring in.  This includes items like appliances, BBQ pits, tin roofing materials, tire rims, water heaters, etc.  This material gets taken to one of our local recycling vendors instead of being taken to the landfill.

What is the Tips Warehouse?

This is a warehouse that we use to store donated gently used construction material.  Low-income families and non-profit organizations that are looking to make home/facility improvements can come to this warehouse to look for items that can be used for those improvements.  Please see our TIPS Warehouse page for more information.
