S.W.A.T Team

About the Program

Officers sometimes face situations which involve a greater potential for criminal violence than those typically encountered by the patrol force.

Because of this, the Huntsville Police Department formed a S.W.A.T. Team several years ago. Currently the team consists of 10 members.

Requirements

Officer wishing to join the team must successfully pass:
  • A physical endurance test
  • An oral review board
  • Psychological testing
  • Specialized firearms qualification
  • SWAT school
In addition, ongoing training is continually provided.

It is the policy of the Huntsville Police Department to utilize the skills, tactics and tools of this specially trained and equipped unit to resolve critical incidents in a peaceful manner and, if force must be used, to do so in the most focused and effective manner so as to safeguard innocent lives.
