HUNTSVILLE – TxDOT will have a temporary closure of the northbound lanes of IH 45 beginning 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2025, through 5 a.m. Monday, March 31, weather permitting, for a temporary lane change related to ongoing construction.
During the closure, northbound drivers will be directed to Exit 113 (SH 19) and use the frontage road to re-enter IH 45 south of FM 1374. Message boards and law enforcement officers will be in place to assist with traffic flow. Once the temporary lane change is complete, Exit 114 (FM 1374/Montgomery Road) will remain open during this phase of construction.
The temporary lane change is the process of shifting or redirecting the flow of traffic from one portion of a roadway to another to allow construction crews to safely work on the closed section of the roadway while still maintain traffic flow on the active section.
This is part of the $200 million reconstruction of IH 45 that involves replacing the four-lane freeway with a six-lane freeway with concrete media in Walker County. The project is anticipated to be completed in fall 2027.
TxDOT urges drivers to plan accordingly, allow for additional travel time, and follow all posted signs and directions.
