HUNTSVILLE – Beginning the morning of Tuesday, July 29,2025, the new Smither Drive Bridge in Huntsville will be open to traffic. The new traffic signals will be placed in flashing red during the morning hours, requiring all traffic to stop, and will be fully operational by the lunchtime hours. Message boards are in place advising of the new traffic pattern and law enforcement officers will be present to help with the flow of traffic. At this time, the two U-turn bridges will remain closed.

The new Smither Drive Bridge will be open in a temporary configuration while the remaining items are completed before opening the two U-turn bridges and the remainder of the main Smither Drive Bridge. The temporary configuration will consist of one left turn lane and one through lane in each direction.

Motorists should remain alert and watch for workers as work is still ongoing at this location.
