    Story Time is a fun early literacy program for kids 5 and under at the Huntsville Public Library. Join us for interactive stories, songs, rhymes, and crafts three times a week in the Staggs Community Room.     Get fit while you sit with Sittercise! It’s an exercise program offered from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Huntsville Public Library in conjunction with Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Sittercise is designed to help those who are aging and/or dealing with chronic and other illnesses. It focuses on strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance, and overall improved function. Please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Liability waivers are required to participate and are available from the instructor. The class is free and open to adults ages 18 and older.

    The Huntsville Public Library is pleased to announce an opportunity for genealogy enthusiasts and newcomers alike to meet with experienced and qualified genealogical researchers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. One-hour sessions will be offered weekly on Thursdays. Sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Attendance will be limited to no more than four researchers. The small group will allow each participant to receive individual attention. Sign-up is not required. This program is for adults 17 and older.

    If your family tree is missing some branches, then sign up for “Exploring Ancestry.com”, a workshop devoted to teaching the basics of this online family history resource. The workshop will be held on the first Friday of each month from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Develop the skill sets needed for online genealogical research. Learn how to navigate the different learning centers and databases. Discover family tree members using Ancestry.com tools such as vital, census, military, and immigration records. The site is free to library patrons when used on the library’s computers. Limit 4 per session.

  8. Planting Your Fall Vegetable Garden

    Huntsville Public Library is pleased to host the Walker County Master Gardeners “Planting Your Fall Vegetable Garden” workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 26 in the Staggs Community Room. The Master Gardeners will discuss tips about fertilization, weed and insect control, plant selection and harvesting guidelines, composting, and mulching. Texas Master Gardeners are members of the local community who have been accepted into the Master Gardener training program in Walker County. They have attended 50 hours of instruction, and have committed 50 hours of volunteer service to Walker County’s Texas Cooperative Extension program to attain certification. The group is committed to educating others in the community about a variety of horticulture-related topics. Their workshops and presentations are presented in an engaging manner that is conducive for learning. Door prizes will be awarded. Sign up for this free workshop at www.myhuntsvillelibrary.com.

    Need a way to keep track of your schedule or budget? Learn how to organize your data with Microsoft Excel. The Huntsville Public Library is offering free Microsoft Excel Classes for beginners! A series of four classes from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesdays begins August 6th in the Monday Computer Room. The course will cover subjects such as making a new file, data entry, cell formatting, formulas, and manipulating a finished table. Adults 18 years and older can register for classes.

  1. Yard Waste Pickup

    August 21, 2019, 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM @ Transfer Station

    Residential yard waste collection service is provided two to three times per month: The 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesday of each month, this is automatic and there is no call-in required. Yard waste is classified as leaves, grass, pine needles, yard clippings and small brush (green waste). The total number of bagged, canned or bundled yard waste is limited to twelve (12) per household per collection day. All yard waste materials must be placed within 2 feet of the street's edge no later than 6:00 AM on the morning of the scheduled pick-up.
