UPDATE: Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, December 14, and ending at noon on Saturday, December 15, the West Frontage road from South of FM 1375 to Interstate 45 entrance ramp will be closed, weather permitting. The reason for this closure is to allow TxDOT to place remaining concrete pavement on the west frontage road. Motorists should consider an alternate route. Drivers should exercise caution and be prepared for extended delays during this closure.
To alert drivers to the closures and detours, changeable message signs will be placed in the southbound direction of the West Frontage Road prior to this closure.
The West frontage temporary closure is for the construction of concrete pavement and the new southbound permanent entrance ramp to Interstate 45. The Interstate 45 lane closures, lane shifts, ramp relocations, and Frontage Road construction are part of the reconstruction of Interstate 45 that will involve replacing the existing four-lane divided highway with a six-lane highway with a concreted median barrier in southern Walker County. The project is scheduled to be completed in September 2021.
During the 4.5-year project, multiple lane shifts and relocation of traffic will take place at various times to accommodate construction activity.
