Considering a run for City Council? Not considering it at all but curious about the process?
Considering a run for City Council? Not considering it at all but curious about the process? If so, mark the calendar for upcoming City Council candidate orientation sessions set for July 18 at 12:15 p.m. City Secretary Lee Woodward acknowledges members of the public may have questions about the responsibilities of Councilmembers and the election process.
"We hope anyone who wants to know more about how City Councilmembers are elected or what they do once in office will join us for an orientation session," Woodward said. "The public is welcome to ask questions about the process and the responsibilities. Several current members of the Council will reach term limits in their positions in the next two general elections, so residents are thinking about who can best fill the seats and work on behalf of the entire community."
Candidate packets for the 2018 City of Huntsville General Election are already available, at the office of the City Secretary at City Hall, 1212 Avenue M, or on the City website at HuntsvilleTX.gov/Elections or HuntsvilleTX.gov/Elecciones. The City Council seats for the four At-Large Councilmember positions will be on the November 6, 2018, general election ballot. Filing for the positions will be from July 21, 2018, to August 20, 2018, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, in the office of the City Secretary (City Hall, 1212 Avenue M). The City of Huntsville application fee is one dollar in cash, per City Charter mandate.
