Calling all young art enthusiasts - the 8th Annual Friends of the Huntsville Public Library Art Contest is open. In honor of the Huntsville Public Library’s 50thanniversary, the theme for art this year is “Celebrations.”
This contest is designed for students 5-18 years old, and the deadline to submit is Friday, February 23, 2018. Art should be inspired by joy, festivities, and life’s great moments, according to Children’s Coordinator Rachel McPhail.
“Each year, we are just amazed at the talent and turn out,” McPhail said. “The kids love seeing their artwork displayed for judging. The winning artwork is enlarged and hung throughout the library for a year – and each year the artwork draws the attention of patrons.”
Winners will be formally announced at the Artwork Unveiling Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 23.
“For several years, the Friends of the Library have been providing funding for the art contest to encourage the many young artists in Huntsville,” said Friends member Barbara Lewis. “We’ve been happy to provide funding and support for young artists, as their pictures are used to decorate the children’s library.”
A completed entry form is required for eligibility. All forms are available online at MyHuntsvilleLibrary.com or at the library, 1219 13th Street. For more information, please contact Children’s Coordinator Rachel McPhail at 936-291-5910.
