During the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 30, 2016, two City of Huntsville Police Department officers were working traffic on Highway 19, just north of the Highway 30 overpass. The officers heard several shots fired and observed muzzle flashes in the area of Trinity Cut-Off at Highway 19. The officers found the location where the shots had been fired and recovered spent shell casings in the roadway at Trinity Cut-Off and Highway 19. Through further investigation, it has been determined that the subjects firing the weapon were shooting toward Highway 19, very possibly in the direction of the officers. It is believed the subjects firing the weapon fled the scene in a dark colored pickup truck.
Chief Kevin Lunsford is personally asking for assistance from the community in locating the subjects who fired the weapon. Chief Lunsford said, “We are taking this incident very seriously. Vehicles travel Highway 19 all hours of the day and night. The persons responsible for this incident could have easily injured innocent passersby or our officers as they protect the citizens of our community.”
The Huntsville Police Department urges anyone with information on this incident contact the Department (936-291-5480) or Walker County/Huntsville Crime Stoppers (936-294-9494 or http://walkercounty.crimestoppersweb.com/).
