Huntsville Police Department traffic stop leads to large seizure of illegal drugs and the recovery of a stolen handgun.
On February 17, Corporal Justin Schubert observed a white 2015 Ford Fusion traveling north on Highway 19, at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. Cpl. Schubert activated his radar unit which indicated the Ford was traveling at 72 mph in a 60-mph area. Cpl. Schubert detained the vehicle and, as he interacted with the driver, detected the odor of marijuana.
Further investigation by Schubert led to the discovery of approximately $50,000 worth of narcotics and a stolen handgun. Cpl. Schubert located marijuana, Xanax, Ecstasy, codeine, and promethazine cough syrup.
The driver, Claude Edward Slaughter III, a 23-year-old Humble, Texas resident, was arrested on the following charges:
1. Manufacture & delivery of a controlled substance PG1 (F1)2. Manufacture & delivery of a controlled substance PG2 (F1)3. Manufacture & delivery of a controlled substance PG3 (F2)4. Possession of a dangerous drug (MA)5. Possession of marijuana (MB)6. Theft of a firearm (SJF)7. Unlawful possession of a firearm (SJF)
Huntsville Police Chief, Kevin Lunsford, commends Cpl. Schubert for his diligent traffic enforcement and keen police skills which led to the removal of the drugs and a handgun. “The community is a safer place thanks to Cpl. Schubert,” Lunsford said.
