Enjoy a half-hour of developmentally appropriate activities featuring stories, songs, and rhymes Mondays at 10:30 a.m. This program introduces little ones to the story time experience and is perfect for developing language and vocabulary. Get fit while you sit with Sittercise! It’s an exercise program offered from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Huntsville Public Library in conjunction with Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Sittercise is designed to help those who are aging and/or dealing with chronic and other illnesses. It focuses on strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance, and overall improved function. Please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Liability waivers are required to participate and are available from the instructor. The class is free and open to adults ages 18 and older.

Story Time is a fun early literacy program for kids 5 and under at the Huntsville Public Library. Join us for interactive stories, songs, rhymes, and crafts three times a week in the Staggs Community Room. The early literacy practices featured each week help build the foundation for a lifelong love of reading and learning. Story Time offers caregivers and parents an opportunity to experience early literacy practices in action, discover great books and resources for home use, and socialize with other parents after Story Time. There is something new each week! Sign-up is not required. Story Time is held on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday mornings, and Friday mornings.

Stumped by math homework? The Huntsville Public Library will be offering Math Homework Help for elementary and junior high aged students on Wednesday afternoons from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Nash Board Room. Participants can use library laptops or ask a library staff member for help.

Free Yoga classes begin Wednesdays in May, from 5.30 to 6.15 p.m. in the Staggs Community Room at the Huntsville Public Library. Learn breathing exercises, meditation and poses designed to encourage relaxation and reduce stress. Please bring your own towel or mat. Consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. The Huntsville Public Library is pleased to announce an opportunity for genealogy enthusiasts and newcomers alike to meet with experienced and qualified genealogical researchers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. One-hour sessions will be offered weekly on Thursdays. Sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Attendance will be limited to no more than four researchers. The small group will allow each participant to receive individual attention. Sign-up is not required. This program is for adults 17 and older.

Is anyone ever too old to learn how to code? The Hour of Code™ is a global movement that aims to introduce coding to everyone, regardless of age or background. Participate this summer in the Hour of Code™ event - a fun introduction to computer science - at the Huntsville Public Library! This series of four classes for adults will be held from 11 to 12 p.m. on Thursdays begins May 9 in the Monday Computer Room.The hour-long sessions give attendees an opportunity to learn the basics of coding and aim to instill confidence to learn new technology. Activities require no prior experience and are designed to demystify "code" in a way that shows that anybody can learn the basics of computer science. Registration is required.

If your family tree is missing some branches, then sign up for “Exploring Ancestry.com”, a workshop devoted to teaching the basics of this online family history resource. The workshop will be held on the first Friday of each month from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Develop the skill sets needed for online genealogical research. Learn how to navigate the different learning centers and databases. Discover family tree members using Ancestry.com tools such as vital, census, military, and immigration records. The site is free to library patrons when used on the library’s computers. Limit 4 per session.

Residential yard waste collection service is provided two to three times per month: The 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesday of each month, this is automatic and there is no call-in required. Yard waste is classified as leaves, grass, pine needles, yard clippings and small brush (green waste).
The total number of bagged, canned or bundled yard waste is limited to twelve (12) per household per collection day. All yard waste materials must be placed within 2 feet of the street's edge no later than 6:00 AM on the morning of the scheduled pick-up.
