The Huntsville Police Department is currently accepting applications for Certified Peace Officers ONLY. This mean you need to already be certified as a Peace Officer in the State of Texas. Each applicant must successfully complete the following:
Applicant Interview Board
Should you not be a Certified Police Officer the Huntsville Police Department will pay a salary to you at the recruit level and pay for your attendance at a local police academy of our choice. Once you have successfully passed the academy and become a Certified Police Officer you will enter into our Field Training Program at the Police Officer level. Intensive Field Training will last a minimum of 12 weeks.
Upon your offer of employment if you are a Certified Police Officer with the State of Texas you will immediately enter Field Training. During this time you will be assigned with a Field Training Officer.
As your career develops, promotional opportunities of the rank of Senior Officer, Sergeant and Lieutenant become available.

Advanced Accident Investigation
As a Senior Officer, you can become a detective and conduct detailed investigations in such areas as burglary, robbery, homicide, auto theft and sexual assaults.
